I am German because I was born in Germany. I am American because I was born again there. I combine two cultures and until recently I thought it to be a curse. It's not! It's a blessing to be a Germarican.

The hubby, 25 days to go and I

It's amazing how close Matthias and I have been these last couple of weeks. Not tat we haven't been close before but it feels like we are more connected now. More than ever.

We spend more quality time together which is wonderful. We go out to eat, just to things we have been wanting to do for a long time, we are more spontanious- just all the good stuff in a relationship, I guess.

I know that my departure in 25 days has a lot to do with that. I'm grateful because it definitely shows me that we will be alright being 4 months apart.

Meeting him for lunch today (first time ever!! Yes...no kidding!).

Loving life.

The big 2-5!

Alright, so now I'm a quarter of a century old and by now I'm certain that this is a major point of my life. Things have been falling into place like crazy and it feels like that everything I have done in my entire life was meant to lead me to this point in my life.

I am a business owner with an incredible first two months of doing business. I'm happily married for amost 4 years now, I have amazing friends and family and I am about to board a fascinating ride of life, my life. There are no words to describe what I feel at this point. It's a neat little mixture of excitement, gratitude, love, craziness blended with a small portion of fear. I guess fear is not the right word here. I'm not afraid. Maybe uncertainty would be better.

I started this blog with a "status quo" blog post over a year ago. Looks like I need a "new status quo" post here soon! :)

A new angel for my new blog

I got really tired of my old blog layout and since I created a new blog for my Germans today (which I will use as my online diary for my 4 months stay in Ohio), I really wanted to update my "old" blog as well... it's inda weird now and I have to get used to it but it will be okay, I guess.

I'm just really happy about my angel (the one you see on top of my blog!).

I really want to get a tattoo that looks exactly like this angel! Everytime I look at it I fall in love more and more. Let me know what you think! :)

B-L-E-S-S-E-D

I got my visa, I booked my flight, I am happy beyond words... I need to sort everything out and start packing.

But first I need to finish my job - one more week as a teacher!

43 days until I'm home!

Here we go...

This is what it all comes down to: I'm on my way to Berlin right now. My visa application interview is tomorrow at 8.45 am.

I am nervous but I know I shouldn't be.

Looking forward to seeing Kathrin in just a little bit... She will calm me down.

Things will go just great - I hope! Praying for a YES but I know it's not in my hands and it certainly isn't about what I want.

Doubts and no doubt at all

I'm in a weird state of mind today. Actually, it all started out pretty cool after a fantastic weekend with my friend Anja. But after she left I talked to my Mom about everything that will be going on for me in the next couple of months. I know she is worried about me and she wants me to achieve everything I planned on achieving but her questions concerning the visa, the visa interview, the whole situation with my current job and my studies just planted doubts in my heart and mind. I wonder if everything will fall apart within the next weeks just because everything has been going great - fantastic even.

I shouldn't doubt. I know that. I need to trust that everything will work out the way it's supposed to- be it either way. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that things aren't in my control but that I am capable of living with whatever I will be given. I'm already feeling better just having written this. :) Yeah, I feel a lot better. Just read through the first part again and it makes me smile that dealing with my doubts, yet again, showed me that there is no reason to doubt anything. PERIOD.

But doubts are everywhere.

The other day I had a conversation with someone who attended service at a German church (it was part of a charity event which is why she attended in the first place). She told me that she was listening to the sermon when she started to wonder if Christians are indeed happier people than atheists (like her). I questioned her about it. She said that she wonders whether it is really that much easier to live life knowing that you will go to Heaven. I thought this was pretty neat and I told her about how I felt differently after becoming a Christian. She was quite stunned because she didn't even know that I came to know the Lord and that I was baptized in November. (I have to add we've been friends for a long time, she is one of my Golden Girls that I have talked about before) I told her that I can clearly say that my life has become A LOT lighter. I wouldn't necessary say it has become easy (but definitely easIER- OH YES- A LOT EASIER!) but I definietly know how to cope with everything now. Having known her for so long I bluntly said: "If you would just give it all to the Lord, if you would stop trying to control things that you cannot control and if you would stop thinking that you CAN be in control your life would be so much better." Period. I don't think I have EVER used such straight forward words talking to someone her age. And, quite honestly, I don't think I have ever let God speak through me like that before either. She was bewildered for a second but I could see her mind working. I expected her to be mad at me (because I know how atheists are after hearing something like that) but she wasn't at all.

Do you know what happened?

She cried. She nodded. "It's hard", she said, "I want to be in control, I have always tried to do that and deep in my heart I knew it couldn't work that way. But I am not sure if I am ready to let go."

I knew exactly what she meant. I know exactly how she feels. I know it will take time but this won't be the last conversation we're having about this matter.

The next day I could see that she hadn't slept well. Or maybe not at all. But she was all smiles. I take it as a good sign.

I know all about doubts! Just read the first part of my blog. They're still there sometimes but now I know I'm not alone fighting against them. And, hopefully, my friend will know that someday, too.

New adventures, new job, new life.... a recap!

A lot has been going on for me- I'm sure you realized that partly because I haven't posted a blog in over a month. So sorry!! :)

In my last blog I boldly announced that 2010 will be my year, and -knock on wood- I still feel that way. With January coming to an end things drastically changed in my life. Even though, drastic somewhat seems to have a negative connotation, I embrace it as something wonderful, at least in my case. So, the semester ended and I didn't attend the one and only exam which I would have had to take because I didn't want to. PERIOD. I don't regret it because I know I will be a college student for one more year and driving back and forth just to attend ONE class was dreadful which is why I decided to make driving back and forth more worth it by attending two classes starting in October. Lol. Yes, I guess I'm a practical person in a way...

Also, my job training ended after 4 months and I have to say it has been one of the best things in my entire life. I know I never really told you what this was all about but, to make a long story short, I was trained in marketing, international trade, business management and things like that. It sounds dry and totally not like me but it was so much fun. I guess that fun derived from having a very diverse but yet wonderful group of people in my training and I can honestly say I've made some new friends, which is always great, of course. This job training is supplemented by a 4 months internship in a foreign country - guess which country I chose! Lol.

During my job training I had the most wonderful experience of my entire life: I had an epiphany. I really did. I was sitting in class one day thinking about where I wanna go for my internship and what products or goods I want to sell and stuff when I realized that EDUCATION is a good as well and that I always wanted to build bridges between two cultures (US and German cultures, of course)... all of a sudden I realized that everything I had been doing for the past years fell into place and made sense - I realized that being a Germarican is NOT a curse but A BLESSING and that it is my calling in life!!!! INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION is the key here. Like I said before I'm a very practical person and I wanna work with people, I wanna impact lives and have my life impacted by others, I wanna change views on things and have my views changed, I wanna enhance intercultural communication and get rid of stereotypes and limited thinking while still broadening my very own horizon.
I wondered if I could use my epiphany for my internship and I talked to the people in charge and they, much to my surprise, very beyond ecstatic about my idea. They offered me a lot of help and told me I could start my own business to promote intercultural trainings and go to the States for the 4 month intership to start building a network of possible clients and so on.

As of February 1st, I.CULTURE - Intercultural Competence, Language and Theater is official!!

But it doesn't stop there: As of February 8th I am a teacher for Business English! I teach adults who are being trained to become accountants and marketing experts. They are all older than me but I love teaching and interacting with people and it is just another sign telling me that I am on the right path. It tells me it was actually God's plan and his will for my life and it feels great!

Needless to say, I am pretty excited about the money as well- it comes at a perfect time because I can use every cent to be able to make it in the States for 4 months.

Right now, I am working on applying for my visa. Since I will be in the States for four months I cannot just go there and use the 90 day tourist visa. I'm actually applying for a business visa. My visa interview will be in Berlin at the American embassy. It's in two weeks from now (March 3rd) and I am getting really nervous. I just hope that everything works out and that they will grant my visa. I have to wait to book a flight until they grant the visa... EXCITING TIMES!!

That's my story in VERY short...lol.

LOVING LIFE- I guess that's all that matters, right?

2010 will be my year

Happy new year, everyone!!! I hope your transition into the new year was smooth and you had fun celebrating New Year's!?

2010 started off just right for me. I spent New Year's in Kassel where Matthi had 2 shows (which really sucks in a way because I didn't really get to see him at all...but, oh well, whatelse is new!?). After his 2nd show we only had 5 more minutes of 2009 left... I wasn't too sad about this. Even though, 2009 had been pretty good to me in a lot of ways I just couldn't wait until 2010.

Matthi and I went to bed around 3 am. Whereas Matthi fell asleep right away I couldn't sleep at all... I think I finally fell asleep at 4.30 am but had to get up again an hour later because my friend Jeanny and I had decided to go to our annual Bamberg trip together.

Well, what can I say: I was beyond tired but I managed to get to the train station on time. The train, however, didn't make it to the train station on time which had me standing in the blistering cold way too long. But I knew that it would still be all worth it. With a 30 mins delay the train finally made it to meet and greet me. I hopped on it and made my way through all the coaches, squeezing through tons of bags and sleepy people just to find Jeanny who was supposed to be there somewhere. I found her, at last, sleeping in a rather uncomfortable position... it was a cute little scenario to look at and I couldn't help but gently wake her up by wishing her a happy new year.

The train ride was rather uneventful, except for the fact that we missed our connection because of the delay. But we were in high spirits, even though we both were extremely tired. We exchanged christmas-friendship-presents, slept a little and made plans what to do for the weekend.

We got to our hotel around 11 am. Our room was not ready for us yet so we stored our luggage and went on a little spree through town. The problem was that January 1st is a national holiday in Germany so nothing was open really. We found a little cafe right by the Irish Pub that would be our destination for the night. We had a coffee and a piece of pastry and made our way back to the hotel about 2 hours later just to crash on our beds right away. The room was spacious. So was the bathroom and our little balcony. We slept until 5.30 pm. I guess we both really needed it. Lol.

Upon waking up we noticed that we were both hungry. So we looked up a nice Itaƶlian place and had the best freshly-made pizza of our entire lives. Seriously, you wonderful Americans bhave NO IDEA what a pizza can taste like until you made it to Europe to try a real Italian pizza. What a delicious explosioan of insanely good ingredients! I'm getting hungry again just thinking about it. Hehe.

Anyways, we went to the Irish Pub afterwards and had a couple of beers before heading to "The Green Goose" for some dancing and more beer. WE HAD A BLAST.

The nwxt day pretty much resembled the first day...we met some pretty nice Americans (I told you about the army base in Bamberg, right?) and just had so much fun.

I don't think I would have that much fun in Bamberg with any of my other friends. Jeanny and I have the perfect mixture of fun, sincerity and Germarican nostalgia... it's just perfect and I wouldn't want it to be any other way.

It was the perfect start for the new year!!

2010 will be my year! I can just feel it. In a little bit I will start my own business and will head back home for 4 months. I cannot wait- imagine that! Lol.

Hopefully I will start teaching an English class next month.

I will have the most amazing birthday/farewell bash in March and who knows what will happen later this year!

I'm ecstatic about 2010... and I sure hope YOU ARE TOO!!!
